JW Paris- Electric Candle Light review

JW Paris: trying to prove success doesn’t always come through big industry backing

The fiercely independent JW Paris have recently released a chaotic music video to go with their grungy single ‘Electric Candle Lighton their own label, Blaggers Records. Aiming to show that indie artists can make it independently without the backing of big music labels, the London-based trio is blazing their own path, organising tours and releases entirely by themselves. Supporting bands such as The Amazons and Avalanche Party, JW Paris are certainly gaining momentum, smashing out an 11-date tour earlier this year.

Boasting plays on both Radio 6 and BBC 1, their recent single, Electric Candle Light, feels like a rougher style of Britpop, reminding me a bit of the Kaiser Chiefs but a bit more gravelly. A song made to be played loud; it definitely gets your head nodding and your feet tapping.

Featured in their accompanying music video, their live performances of this song are unsurprisingly lively. The music video is a virtual tour diary from their stint this year, including shots of bassist Aaron licking one of their tour posters to stick on a wall; not very Covid-safe, but when has rock and roll ever cared about germs? Regardless, JW Paris is definitely on the rise, so keep your eyes (and ears) out for more.
